Subsidized apartments are for seniors (people 55 years old and older) or people with disabilities. Each apartment complex is different and has different requirements. They commonly have restrictions based on credit, rental and criminal histories and often have waiting lists. If you are eligible for subsidized housing and meet the requirements, we recommend that you apply immediately to get onto any waiting lists. DURAND PLAZA
Durand Plaza has 1 bedroom apartments for seniors and people with disabilities. Call for an application to be mailed to you or visit the rental agent on site to receive an application. There are restrictions on who is eligible to rent apartments. They will not rent to people who 1) have an eviction in the last five years, 2) owe past utilities, 3) have a misdemeanor conviction in the last 5 years, or 4) have a felony conviction in the last 10 years.

MERIDIAN
Meridian has 8 apartment complexes in Racine. Applications must be made online, with a separate page submitted for each complex to which a person is applying. Apartments are subsidized for senior citizens and people with disabilities, but require a security deposit equivalent to one month’s rent and the tenant is responsible for utilities. There are some restrictions. Meridian will not accept people who: 1) Have a felony conviction, 2) Have been evicted in the last 3 years, 3) Have convictions for damage to property, drug related offenses, violence against another person, theft / burglary, multiple disorderly conducts, or sex crimes.
